The MetroWest Veterans Services District, which encompasses the towns of Ashland, Holliston, Hopkinton & Medway, has an Emergency Relief Fund for veterans who do not qualify for statutory funding programs. This fund addresses urgent needs for veterans and their eligible dependents that could otherwise not be provided. In the last four years, the Emergency Fund has dispensed over $20,000 for emergency housing, heat, medical, and transportation needs, and over $4,500 in food gift cards. The Emergency Fund has maintained support of our veterans that is critical to their independence and ability to live safely. There is an ongoing need in our communities to maintain the Emergency Fund especially due to the escalating costs of necessities. The goal is to respond to veteran’s needs locally and prevent greater fiscal distress. Whenever services are involved in these emergency needs, the Metrowest Veteran’s Emergency Relief Fund strives to hire local businesses.
